No time like the present

Posted on August 31, 2010

Today I get to be on the other side of the lens as we are getting our family photographs taken by the amazing Heather from One Love Photo. I am so stinkin’ excited; I’m hoping I don’t scare her off with my over-abundant fervor :)

I would venture to say that most husbands are not too keen on having professional photographs done; my husband being one of them. He doesn’t quite get why I want these done so badly. He thinks I should take them myself. But here’s the thing – I want photographs capturing us and all the fun and love and playfulness that exists in our family, not just a record of how we look at the moment. I can take photos like that of my kids and my husband, but I can’t be included in that. A tripod and timer can only capture so much “spontaneous” activity.

It’s so important to me to do this now, while Knox is still a baby, even though I still have 15 pounds to lose (and by 15 I mean 20, who am I kidding), because he’ll be one soon. He’s going to be walking soon. Brock keeps getting bigger and smarter and is losing those baby-like features. This point in our lives only exists for today; tomorrow they’re another day older. And this thought is very prevalent in my mind, morbid as it may be: What if I were to die next month, next year, tomorrow? What will my two young boys have to remember me by? A snapshot here and there of me with a baby strapped to my chest? I want them to have something to look at when they are adults and see how much I loved them, how much fun I had with them, and how happy they made me. It’s that thought that made me toss all the insecurities out the window, all the delays I could create for myself – wait ‘til I’m thinner, wait ‘til Knox walks, wait ‘til …whenever. No. Do it now because this day only exists for 24 hours. I won’t get this time back.

And speaking of back, I just pulled up this gem from a couple of months ago.

My birthday is this Friday, and what better way to celebrate then by giving away a photography session?!

Up for grabs is a 1-2 hour photo session, on-location or in your home, and a 16×20 gallery wrapped canvas. Prize is valued at $325. Great time to get those holiday portraits taken! The session must take place by December 15th, 2010 and needs to be scheduled 4 weeks in advance. I will travel up to 2 hours outside of Seattle for the session, so if you’re in Portland, or Vancouver, we can meet in the middle :)

You have 3 ways to enter.
1. Post a comment letting my know what type of session you’d want if you won.
2. Share this on Facebook and post another comment over here telling me you did so. While you’re over there, go ahead and “like” Ketti Photography!
3. Share this on Twitter and post another comment telling me you did so. Go ahead and follow me on Twitter too!
Each entry must have it’s own comment posted here.
Contest ends at 11:59pm Friday, July 23rd. Winner will be announced over the weekend. Might not be until Sunday, because I’m having a big party on Saturday! But who am I kidding, I’ll be so excited to see who won, I’ll probably post the winner at midnight. :)

going home

Posted on May 5, 2010

We recently returned from our vacation to southern California. We went to visit family and introduce Knox to his family. Also took Brock to Disneyland for his 3rd birthday.  Thought I’d share a few shots with ya!

Fox Tails

Posted on April 24, 2010

We just got back from a family trip to California. My family got to finally meet Knox, and we took Brock to Disneyland for his 3rd birthday. It was such a fun trip, and probably the first vacation we’ve taken as a family where it really felt like we were “adults”. Which is weird since I’m 32 years old, but it was the first time we planned a big trip ourselves that wasn’t somehow attached to our parents plans.

While we were there I did a quick session with my lovely niece, Emma. I took her to the field next to the house I grew up in. I knew it would be awesome as the sun set, but I did not think about all the fox tails the beautiful field had. My shoes and pants were absolutely covered with them! Emma didn’t even bat an eye. She was on a mission to find ladybugs and a few little stickers were not going to get in her way.

It was a lovely vacation and it’s nice to be home. Maybe next time the family will come visit us. hint hint.

Spring seemed to arrive a little early a couple weeks ago, but now it is official. Spring is here and it is beautiful.
Knox enjoyed his first romp in the grass when my friend and I took a break from making these camera bags to take his 5 month portraits.

I finally got a new, real website set up. This one is pretty neat, I think. Clients will appreciate the private proofing galleries with online shopping, I will appreciate the simplicity! Also, sign up for email updates and new posts will be delivered to you.

Here’s a picture of my 2 1/2 year old. We’re potty training while he does his holiday shopping. :)

day 19 | Redmond Newborn Photographer

Posted on November 9, 2009

Three weeks have gone by in a blur. I’m already sad the first few weeks are gone and I’ll probably never have a newborn again. :(

The sleeping newborn phase is ending, and it really showed me how important it is to take newborn photos within the first 10 days. Once they get older it’s just such a challenge to work with them and get the cute, curly sleeping newborn photos.

I’ve got my own little baby to torture with constant photographs now!

Knox Danger Phillips was born on his due date, Sunday, October 18th, weighing in at 8lbs 12oz and a long 23in.

I still haven’t had a chance to do a real photo session with him, though I tried. Figures my own would be my toughest newborn session so far! But in the meantime, enjoy his first photo!

New Addition | Eastside Family Photographer

Posted on September 28, 2009

My last session before my maternity leave was this lovely family. They have a new little guy, 4 week old Mason, and handsome big brother Michael. They kept me on my toes with some great ideas and lots of fun. Somehow I managed to forgot that I was 9 months pregnant, keeping up with them. It caught up with me later, though! My back was hurting the rest of the day!

This is my last session for a while, as I get ready to welcome my own new addition. Be prepared to see lots of newborn pictures in the coming weeks! I will start booking a limited number of sessions in late November/early December, and will return to business as usual in the new year.

Enjoy!

It was hot yesterday – I was uncomfortable, my son wouldn’t take a nap… So I filled up a toy bucket with water, turned on the sprinkler and let him have at it.
