Life with a 15 month old and a 5 day old sounds like it would be complete madness, yet these guys made it look easy.
I spent the morning with the family as they made breakfast and got ready for a typical Sunday.

This is just beginning of life with Charlie. 7 days old.
Congrats, Ryan and Jackie!

Super excited to share these photos. These guys I know well – my cousin and cousin-in-law (?), and baby on the way.
I went down to Olympia to hang out with the expectant parents for a bit and poke around with my camera.

See that cradle there? That thing is near ancient and has been in our family, cradling almost all of our family’s newborns (13 cousins), since my older brother was born. We were in it, our kids were in it, and now Ryan’s will be as well.

Cannot wait for the little guy to make his debut. Good luck, guys! You’ll be the coolest parents.

ah, Ketti these are perfect!! I love the way you see things, so refreshing and real. Gorgeous couple too! I hope you are photographing their newborn session too! xoxo

I love this! The last four are my favorites, especially the ‘tree chair’ photo. I love the well loved cradle as well.

  • Angela says:

Lovely job, Ketti! I really like the ones of them together outside…she has such a beautiful smile!

  • Lynda says:

Ryan reminds me of your grandpa Bob. You can definitely see the Tiedeman in him.

  • Gretchen says:

    So beautfiul, precious real moments!

Oh My Goodness! I love these- THEY ARE AMAZING- Once again Ketti you have out done yourself! What a fun day, climbing on mud flats and falling down cliffs – all in the name of good photography. I love the candid ones that we did at the end with Ryan and I laughing on the trail, and the ones of us on the bed- ALL OF THEM ARE AMAZING: from us walking on the beach, to the tree, and those shots on the stairs! You do such an amazing job! WE LOVE YOU :)

  • Laurie says:

I love these, they look so happy and excited!

LOVE the ones in the woods and the one on the bed brings back memories of waiting for our first :)

This is one family that I really want to photograph again. They were totally cool and interesting, and I want to explore them more. But not in the creepy way that just sounded. And you know I love me a kid in glasses.

Michael was joking that yes, they do just hang out in the living room playing with Tinker Toys (winkey face), but it really got me thinking. Photo sessions can be exhausting, for all involved. I feel like I’m running at 88 miles an hour for the entire duration and the family is existing in a heightened state for the entire time. Lots of togetherness and fun and love, which is honest, but in a volume 11 sort of way. It’s “be yourself” but turned up a few notches. And keep that energy for 90 minutes. It’s tiring! What I would enjoy is a no-pressure afternoon to be a fly on the wall, exist with the family and really explore and capture them in photographs. Like an anthropologist studying a culture.

I know this post will have at least one comment about their bathtub. Amazing, isn’t it? Michael said that was the first time he ever sat in it. If it were me, I’d take baths as often as I could. Tom Ford style.

After a long wait, waiting for someone’s teeth to come in after being kicked out by a certain little brother, I finally had the opportunity to photograph this awesome family. Watching these boys was so entertaining, and going through the photos afterward had me even more enthralled. They are a very sporty bunch but Lucas has a beautiful stillness- a stark contrast to Colin’s wild ambition. I’ll let you decide who is who :)

One of the items on my photography “bucket list” has been to have a session on a ferry. The light streaming through the windows is so beautiful, not to mention the views from the deck. When the Rush family told me they liked taking little adventures and loved the water, I knew they were the perfect subjects. So one Saturday evening, in summer, we hoped on board the ferry to Bainbridge Island. Yes, Saturday evening in the middle of summer makes for a crowded ferry. Boo. But crowds aside, it was super fun and the resulting photographs are lovely! I think I’m keeping this on my list so I can do it again. Perhaps a winter ferry…

I’m so happy to finally be blogging this session!

Meet Li and family. We’ve been friends for over 4 years now but only just met in person a few months ago when they moved to Seattle from Utah. We met 4 years ago in an online forum when we were pregnant with our boys, my first, her 2nd. They just recently added Ellie to the family and I jumped at the chance to photograph the newly expanded clan. Enjoy :)

Saturday mornings as a kid were always the best. The cartoons, the bowls upon bowls of sugary cereal that were banned on school days, staying in your jammies until noon… I got to spend Saturday morning with one of my favorite families and photograph some of those little treasured moments. From the kids first waking up, to special donuts for breakfast. I absolutely love being able to just go in and record some of the little nuances of a family, the dirty bottles and diapers at the top of the stairs, a budding green thumb and all the unbridled happiness that brims from a child.

Thank you for letting me spend a morning with you guys! That bacon maple bar has been on mind mind ever since…
