I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this family a few times now, but this time around there have been some big changes. Carrie really wanted these photographs to show her children that though things have changed, they are still a family and are still very much loved. She also wanted to show her strength in recovering from a divorce, and I think those are the most powerful images of the bunch. It was funny, because as I photographed her alone, she was just telling me her story – the challenges, the joys, and so much power and beauty shone through. It was really amazing to watch it unfold. There are so many women going through the same struggles, figuring out how to rebuild or maintain a stable family while doing it alone, in two different households. I really hope others can take some strength of their own from these photographs.
